Contribution marks Siemens Caring Hands Earth Week 2011 initiatives

In celebration of Earth Week 2011 employee activities, Siemens Canada donated $10,000 to the David Suzuki Foundation, an organization dedicated to preserving Canada’s rich natural resources.

Hundreds of Siemens Canada employees at 12 offices from across the country took part in environmental initiatives in their communities and performed “acts of green” throughout the week. Activities included community/park clean-ups, environmentally friendly car washes, electronics recycling and litter-less lunch days.  The initiative was backed by the Siemens executive management, which sponsored one hour of employee volunteering during work hours to mark the observance.

“We respect the work of the David Suzuki Foundation and are proud to partner with them and to build upon the relationship we have,” says Siemens Canada President & CEO Roland Aurich. “The chance to give back to the communities we make our home in across Canada, and to keep those communities green, clean and beautiful is important to Siemens and its employees.”

The official cheque was presented to Simone Hicken, Manager, Leadership Giving for the David Suzuki Foundation, during an employee town-hall meeting at the Burlington Convention Centre.

“We are grateful for this support from Siemens Canada, and were unduly impressed with the many activities its staff took to green their parks, workplaces, and lunch-boxes,” said Hicken. “Similarly, the David Suzuki Foundation is keen to encourage citizens throughout the country to participate in these sorts of green acts and lead the way towards vibrant, healthy lives and communities.”

Earth Week activities were executed nationwide by members of Siemens’ Caring Hands Employee Committee, a group dedicated to executing the company’s corporate social responsibility programs. 

A significant portion of the donation also came as a result of a recent customer survey commissioned by Siemens Canada, in which the company made a contribution for each completed survey.  The survey was used to measure the effectiveness of Siemens’ recent “Answers for Canada” brand campaign.
