Standardization of patient reports enhances care by eliminating the need for repeat testing and increasing treatment productivity.

The first of four Siemens Dimension EXL 200 Integrated Chemistry Systems purchased by Alberta Health Services will go into service at the Three Hills Health Centre in April 2011.

The purchase of the systems, the world’s first sale of EXL 200s, is part of a contract awarded to Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics by Alberta Health Services (formerly David Thompson Health Region) in 2008 to supply and install clinical chemistry systems in 13 hospital laboratories throughout the former health region. The new systems will set new performance standards and optimize patient tests, saving valuable time and increasing efficiency of the patient testing process.

The EXL 200 systems offer true integration based on consolidation of testing platforms and offer standardization of testing not only between regional sites but also with the core regional laboratory based in Red Deer that also in 2008 purchased two of the new large scale Siemens Dimension integrated chemistry systems (Vista 1500).  Standardization improves the portability of results as patients move between general and specialist physicians within the region resulting in the elimination of the need for repeat testing which saves time and money and most importantly means better overall patient care.

Introduced in Canada by Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics in 2010, the Dimension EXL 200 Integrated Chemistry System is the next level of proven, best-in-class chemistry and immunoassay integration on a single platform with the performance and technology expected from a next-generation system.  The four integrated analytical technologies, including the new LOCI® Technology provide reliable results while the easy-to-use Dimension platform ensures trained operators can run any test, any time. Chemistry and immunoassay integration allows simultaneous processing to maximize workflow.

Dimension EXL 200 Integrated Chemistry Systems will also be installed at the Stettler Health Centre, Hanna Health Centre and Drumheller Health Centre, with two additional systems purchased for locations yet to be determined.
